Grading
We have moved to a new learning management system called "Jupiter". This is where grades will be available, attendance, messages, and more. Make sure you have set up your account, understand its features, and check your students' progress regularly.
Panamericano uses a standards-based grading scale of 1-4. Assessments will be entered into Jupiter as a 1, 2, 3, or 4, using a pre-determined rubric for the assessed standard/benchmark. The chart is below. Students also receive a 1-4 grade on the Learner Profiles. For more information, see the Manual de Convivencia.
Grades are reported by the standard. Therefore, within math, your child may score a 2 on a standard involving addition word problems, yet score a 3 on a standard involving geometry. All the standards within a quarter are then calculated and weighted accordingly to create an overall grade.
IMPORTANT!!! A big change to using a 1-4 scale is that we are not looking for all "4s"....a 4 does NOT equal an A. I explain the 1-4 scale to students using this:
1 - "I don't understand this at all. I need help."
2 - "I am starting to understand, but still sometimes need help."
3 - "I understand this and can do it by myself."
4 - "I understand this so well that I can teach it to others."

Rubrics
Most rubrics will be created based on the performance task. Some assessments will be completed at school in the notebooks, and the rubrics will be directly glued into the notebook. If you are interested in seeing these assessments and grades, please contact me to set up a parent meeting time.
