What are we learning? Reading -- After learning the differeneces between fiction and non-fiction, we will dive deeper into non-fiction. We will work on filling out a KWL organizer. K-The things we already KNOW about the topic of the non-fiction book. W-What we WANT TO KNOW/QUESTIONS we have about the topic. Then after reading the non-fiction book, we will fill out the L-what we LEARNED. This helps students interact more with the text. We will continue this for 2 weeks and integrate our science unit by reading non-fiction texts about plants. Writing -- This week we are writing our reflections for 3-way conferences and how we think first grade is going! Phonics -- We are practicing the long e sound, which can be made from three different ways: "e_e" (magic e makes the other e say his name, like: here or Pete), vowel team "ee" (sheep, street, tree, seed), or vowel team "ea" (eat, beat, sea, mean). Math -- We are back to doing daily math facts this week after a break last week. We will review word problems (OA.1) and move into word problems that have 3 addends (OA.2). Science -- Hopefully your child has been talking to you about seeds and living/nonliving things! This week we are going to examine seeds further and learn about the different parts of it. |
